When I go searching for drink ideas, I get discouraged. The whole ‘mixology’ and ‘mixologist’ thing that has boomed over recent years has made making cocktails for the normal person a bit of a bummer. Who wants to go out and buy a zillion bottles of potions that they’ll use, like, once? Drinks these days have 3-5 various alcoholic bits plus all the mixers, decorations and what-have-yous.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have a cupboard full of things I’m going to use, and not drop a hot buck on a liquid I will use a few ounces of.

So here’s the deal…for the most part, during this wonderful two weeks of love, I am going to try and come up with cocktails that have no more than a few liquors at the most, and ones that you can use over and over.

For example – in this drink I only used Vanilla vodka. I still have lots left over. LOTS. Thus subsequent drinks will be made with it, but used in different ways. Get my drift? I’ll try and use mixers that are easy to get, that you might very well already have in your fridge, and also give you some options.

Now don’t dis me because these recipes are so simple. That’s the point. Simple, but they taste great.

The Pink Slipper – Cooking with Cupid Day 2

Ingredients

  • 1.5-2oz vanilla vodka
  • 4 oz cranberry juice
  • 2 oz half and half (we used fat-free)
  • small piece of dark chocolate (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the vodka, juice and cream into a cocktail shaker with a small amount of ice. Shake vigorously. Pour into martini glass. Topped with shaved dark chocolate.
  2. That's it. Tastes pretty much like strawberry shortcake. We called it the pink slipper because the color reminded us of the fuzzy heeled marabou slippers that Marilyn Monroe would wear with her negligee.
